The Strange Case of Finley Jayne

The Strange Case of Finley Jayne

By Kady Cross

Finley Jayne is one of those young ladies who never seem to catch a break and when she does, she finds a way of ruining it, usually by punching someone she shouldn’t. This Steampunk novella starts with Finley recently fired from her position as a domestic (for punching the children’s governess) and returning to her parent’s home. But before the day is over, she is offered a new position as a companion to the teenage daughter of a local Lord and Lady. Has good fortune finally come her way? The job and the pay seem to be too good to be true which ends up being the case.

The novella is a prequel to Cross’ ‘The Girl in the Steel Corset’. Although billed as a Young Adult story, the butt kicking heroine with hidden powers and secrets as well as Cross’ writing makes this a fun read for all ages.  She blends a good mix of Steampunk, mystery and horror into a suspenseful tale that will leave you ready for the next book.

I give it 4 1/2 snowflakes out of 5.
